Dawn Chorus
Copyright Sara L. Russell
Robin: All's well in my domain, All's well in my domain.
Songthrush: Mice play in the hinterlands, Milkbottles flank every door, Mist reaches with wraith-like hands From hilltop heights to valley floor.
Jenny Wren: Hopping, darting, dipping, questing, Where the ivy twists and turns, Underneath the sparrows nesting Hid behind the rocks and ferns...
Robin: Who dares breach my domain?
Blackbird: Flee! Flee! The cat arises, Stretching as the spiders spin, Crouching darkness holds surprises: Slinking shadows closing in!
Robin: Who dares breach my domain?
Wood Pigeon: Oh, do look. Oh, do look!
Wood Pigeon 2: A great big kitty. A great big kitty, look!
Starlings: Stupid cat! Stupid cat! How about this for a hat? We'll spray your washing line as well, We'll make your life a living hell!
Robin: Get out of my domain! Get out of my domain!
Blackbird: See! See! The cat's retreating, Leaping through his secret door, Rattled by our rowdy greeting - All's well on the garden floor.
Wood Pigeon: Oh, do look. Oh, do look!
Wood Pigeon 2: A great big sissy. A great big sissy, look!
Robin: All's well in my domain, All's well in my domain.
THE END.

| Unique and so true to the personality of birds. I love it! My cat prowls the jungle of our backyard in search of winged prey. But birds are far too intelligent and their eyesight too keen to be preyed upon by a cat, unless of course they are a babe out of the nest or injured, poor darlings... |

My country childhood enables me to interpret the language Sara - very original to put words to birdsong. I remember how blackbirds and starlings used to gang up on our cats and dive - bomb them.
But you forgot the most memorable voice of the dawn chorus ;-) The sozzled rustic under the hedgerow going "oooh moi effin 'ed." |
