I WAS BORN IN A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY,
WITH VERY LITTLE HOPE OF SUCCESS.
AT THE SAME TIME IN THE USA, A CHILD
WAS BORN TO A RICH FAMILY, WITH A LOT MORE, NOT LESS.
I HAD TO STRUGGLE TO SURVIVE,
FOOD WAS SCARCE, CLOTHING WAS HANDED DOWN.
MY COUNTERPART HAD A GOURMET CHEF,
HIS CLOTHES, FROM THE FINEST STORES IN TOWN.
I ATTENDED SCOOL WHEN IT WAS SAFE,
I DIDN`T HAVE ANY REAL TOYS.
I PLAYED WITH ROCKS AND STICKS,
HE PLAYED VIDEO GAMES WITH OTHER BOYS.
I LEARNED TO LIVE FROM DAY TO DAY,
I PRAYED, I WEPT, I DREAMED.
HE WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL,
AND PLAYED ON A WINNING TEAM.
I WENT TO SERVE IN MY COUNTRY`S ARMY,
I WAS TAUGHT TO SHOOT AND FIGHT.
I DROVE A TANK, HE DROVE A SPORTS CAR,
MY SKIN COLOR IS DARK, HIS IS LIGHT.
I CAN`T RUN FOR OFFICE,
OR SPEAK OUT OF THE WAY I FEEL.
HE CAN BECOME A SENATOR, EVEN PRESIDENT.
I`LL BE LUCKY TO HAVE A WARM MEAL.
SOMEDAY I HOPE THINGS WILL CHANGE,
I`LL KEEP ON DREAMING OF THAT DAY.
UNTIL THERE IS FAIRNESS ON EARTH,
I`LL BE SEARCHING FO A BETTER WAY.
NOTE: Please keep the 12 Days of Christmas chain poem going...
THANKS

Interesting poem - however, most povery in a third world country is created by the actual corrupt governments ruling the third world. They do not care about their own people...just ultimate meglomaniac power. Peace to you :0)

You didnt miss out on much, just look at the stats, I think your'e a better person for having missed out.
Too much indulgence breeds contempt, no respect, and a downright mercanry attitude, stay well, little is more.

I lived through the Great depression here in good old USA No toys, lucky to have some food, father had no job but was always looking along with thousands of others in the same boat. We all got a lesson in poverty for ten years and we struggled on until the war came and took more of our youth away. Great poem

Oh life is not fair or equal, but it's what we do with our card hand that counts. Well penned.
