For My Dad
by Sherri Smith

Wednesday, April 26, 2006
Rated "G" by the Author.

A poem for my Dad.

There is a huge hole left in my heart

The part that you occupied

You were getting better

The news was so unexpected

When I left you, you were cheerful

Rosy cheeked, and a positive attitude

I didn’t tell you good-bye

Just “See you next time.”

I knew it was the last

I didn’t want to face it

Fourteen years of knowing you

Wasn’t enough; enough to know you loved me

I wish I had told you about my book

It was supposed to be a surprise

But you know, you know.

Thanks for passing down the writing genes.

I just want you to know that I love you

My book is in memory and tribute you Dad.

Thanks for giving me the desire

To be a writer.

I am living my dream

For you, My Dad

My dad went to be with his Lord in 1972, and he is still thought of and missed each day. He was a wonderful Dad and loved his family very much. Our trips to the mountains, the shore, and down South remain in my memory today and he loved his antiques he had in his basement. He was a great person in my estimation and will always be missed. Your father too will always be in your memories. Thanks for this write about him too and your love for him shows.

(((((Sherri))))),

I'm sorry for your loss. My Daddy is currently in a nursing home, undergoing rehabilitation. He's been battling pneumonia, heart irregularities, diabetes, kidney failure, a broken vertebrae (from a fall due to weakness) for months now. This rang deeply with me...a poignant, beautiful rememberance and pic. He reminds me of my own Daddy...

((((((HUGS)))))) and love, Karla. :(

I lost my dad last June, Sherri. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss him so much. I still look at his pictures and can't hardly wrap my mind around the fact that he's gone. I've written a couple of stories about our times together...it's cathartic to write about those you love don't you agree? This is more like a letter, poured straight from the heart. Lovely work.
