First Love

First love can be sweet but painful.

Love blooms in our youth
and ripens with age.
When faced with the truth
passion's fires will rage

But first love is sweet
young hearts filled with love.
When young lovers meet
on the wings of a dove

If you forget just how to smile
your days may be bleak and glum.
Then take a break for a little while
and recall when love had just begun.

When you feel down and oh so so sad
a stone weighs down your poor heart
remember days that you have had
when love so sweet played out its part.

Now and then you may think to say
in darkest night, nothing can grow.
Love like blossoms blooms in May.
If once its seeds so fine you sow.

I had a love, who swore to be mine.
We were the finest of sweet lovers.
Our meeting was a thing divine
the memory of his kiss still hovers.

If first love comes then make him thine
indulge yourself in youthful passions.
It surely must fade with time.
It cannot stand the passing fashions.

With hopeful heart we sway and sing,
share feelings that will make us swoon.
But what begins in early spring,
will often wither and die by June.
