Dance of the Young

A rewrite of an earlier poem

Dance of the Young

Looking back when laughter came easy

And worries were pages to turn

Childhood magic guided my footsteps

Each day was a memory learned.

Now my thoughts are caught in a whirlwind

And my dreams are songs unsung,

I wonder if I’ll ever come up again

To dance the dance of the young.

A sapphire sky, a whispering passion

A daisy-fresh garland encircling my heart.

I thought you and I

Were meshed in a fabric

That could never be torn apart.

But now my sky is muddled with sadness

 with gray clouds setting high

And I wonder if I’ll ever rise up again

To dance my dreams gone by.

Lessons of old are stitched in my heart

Colorful threads intertwined.

Time will soon recreate patterns

A quilt’s recycling of old to new.

Lively steps tapping out a long-lost rhythm

Reclaiming my dance

Of my memories of you.

Melancholy and wise...nostalgia and and a touch of hope...that 'you' brings forth sorrow.

Well expressed loss of innocence, Laurie
