Trees like olives
with bark hearts
hide me from your view-
only a rooftop
and some windows
peek at me from home.
If I blur my eyes,
the gold of the land
will embrace those same trees-
some sleeping against
the barely blue,
the almost white,
this earth's canopy.
To touch those distant hills,
rounded fruits
that grow so far away-
To sleep in those blue-grey mountains,
peaksof serenity
that call me to their silence-
Oh,
for silence-
not of words,
but of thoughts,
not of words,
but of grief.
