This was inspired by a T.V. News report of a fire. It brought back memories of the one we had when I was a child.

Pretty pictures curled
hidden windowsills-

Is that my bedroom curtains
turning as grey
as the smoke that
billows from the
fire's breath?

You are scorching
the place
where my safety lived-

So that now,
I will never feel safe again-

So that now,
I will cling to the things
that matter-

Family and a place
out of the cold,
the deathly kiss
of icy lips
tickling only

I cry because
my life is a
smoke-filled hole.

I cry because
my life is a
room with black walls.

I cry because
I have been exposed
to the fury of nature.

Yes. It is an inbuilt trait that all creatures fear fire...even the ones who think they can control it !!
