Dedicated to: The Truck Driver

I was once able to reassuringly tell my wife;
Do not worry should trouble find you my dear,
as there will always be a Guardian Angel near!

Now I ask you... how many Men have held such
blind respect and trust, that a man did not hesitate...
to intrust the well-being of his wife... and children!

No other Men have thought to be more noble and true ,
not even those Knights of Old... nor Nobles so Blue...
but now I must ask; What the hell happened to you?

Revered Men those Noble Knights of the Highway!
But these once Great Men have fallen from favour...
Their wings and armor blackened... from moral decay.

Journeying down the road day after day, like a tribe
of gypsies, leaving and arriving at all the same stops;
yet... you don't even know... each others name!

With eyes looking straight ahead, they see nothing...
one eye blind and don't wish to see out of the other...
those windows to your soul... are closed... dead!

Now with indifference to all others... but thy self...
absence of pride reflects the true value of your worth...
just one more part of that soulless machine you drive!

As I speak about those once esteemed truck drivers;
The elders sadly smile, and remember how it once was...
The younger's laugh with disbelieve... Ya Right! Ha! Ha!

You are now nothing but the butt of jokes... a fools fool...
this was once your's... respect, honour, trust... but now,
you're just... the derogative joke told at the corner bar!

Yet stories do still abound of you saving the life of...
    "A Guardian Angel of the Highway...
    saved a family of four yesterday when..."

I truly hope, those who remember the way it was...
That those Knights who still hold to the old ways...
Bitch-Slap! Those fools into realizing what's been lost!

But I must confess......
    I do wonder if their souls can really be saved...
'Cause if it can't......
    Then I have just sang their Swan Song!
But hopefully tho'......
    I am delivering that proverbial 'Wake-Up' Call!
Also known as......
    A kick in the arse!

Well written vent here, and I really know what you mean, Things are changing rapidly in this world of ours, even in the South where change...good or bad reaches last. There still are angels of the road, but their numbers are diminishing fast. Great write,
Allen
