For my favorite time of the year.

Orbs of orange

Against fields of gold

Nestled with cornstalks

A contrast most bold.

Awaiting eager hands

To select them for art

Here comes a prospect

One goes in a cart.

Upon a kitchen table

Let carving begin

Slicing away eyes, a nose, and a grin.

Put in the candle

To provide spooky light

Place in a window

For Halloween delight.

Halloween pumpkin mellowly greets

All who ring doorbells

For special sweet treats.

And on the day after

You might see a wax tear

As Halloween pumpkin knows

It'll be a whole year

For his return

With grin and light

To indicate again

It's Halloween night.

I thoroughly enjoyed it--I'm a Halloween enthusiast because of the potential for fun and creativity, anyway! I loved the reference to a "wax tear."

Great poem. The emotions and the wax tear are terrific.

Personally, I don't much care for Hallowe'en (don't celebrate it--much!--); I prefer CHRISTmas! :D
