I wrote the following sarcastic poem because I donít try to rhyme when I write.
This in no way should be taken as a put down to those who
can create beautifully rhythmicly rhyming poetry.
Itís just that I canít stand a rhyme for the sake of itself.
I Canít Stand Rhymes!
I canít stand rhymes,
Just for the sake of filling time(s),
Like ďOh what a feeling,
When youíre dancing on the ceiling,Ē
That stuff makes me sick
It cuts me to the quick,
Oh, and ďTinsel falls from little hands
Reindeer meet a new snowmanĒ
But I canít really really stand,
It makes me want to kill that band.
And what about church hymns too?
They make me feel likeÖlike....I got the flu!(Whew!)
They think they can rhyme a word like ďagainĒ
With a word that doesnít really rhyme like ďpainĒ my friend,
Did that Rhyme?
No? Okay, well one more time.
I had a little doll
I hanged it on the wall
And thatís all.
See? I too can do it! Itís easy as pie!
So now itís time to say goodbye.
But before for I do, I leave you thisÖ
There is beauty in rhymes; itís just that a lot miss.

|I understand about why you feel the way you do but depending on the poem I believe a rhyme can set a tone or a mood sometimes that A free verse could not do, so like most things I prefer free verse ...except......... Sandi|

|I know the feeling. I suck at rhyming! But I do enjoy the occasional beauty that someone might write....aargh! Those two last words rhymed!

|I agree with this....I also got a good laugh.
Sometimes it does...sometimes it don't.
Thanks for sharing.
thanks for your kind words on my work.
|as someone who writes both ways, i appreciate this. if the rhyme happens, fine but when you write nonsense to make it rhyme, it loses an awful lot|

|I got a laugh out of this. ;) Sometimes, I feel like a rhyme, sometimes I don't. Janet|
