This was inspired buy the recent flooding in Louisville Kentucky. FYI: I live on high ground SW of Louisville. I was flooded into this area for a few days but was able to get to town with a 24 hour Kroger

Stop sign on UofL campus (a parking lot)

On a dark and stormy night

Suddenly there is a flash of light

The rain is pouring down

You shudder as you pray you won’t drown

The water pools in the yard

You wonder if you’ve played your last card

Another flash of light

Lights up the night

The water creeps

You definitely won’t go to sleep

Now you wait for the next flash of light

To brighten up the night

It had already been a long day

But you find yourself fading away

Blissful slumber overtakes your senses

Letting down your defenses

You sleep yourself out

Now you have no escape route

The water has crept into the house

It was quieter than a mouse

The water has crept

You have slept

Time stands still

As you’re filled with a chill

It was a dark and stormy night

Now you’re filled with fright

Because of the water’s height
