I hear that old song
"All The Things You Are"
On an old scratched record.
How long ago was it
That it said it all
For me?
And, I wished -
Forty-five years
At least.
And now I know
That the image
In my mind
When it was my prayer
Is ravelled frayed,
By Time.
No longer
My heart palpitates -
It is cool -
My eyes open, tho opaque.
But there's
A sense
This life,
And I am
In it -
A star -
To null.
Yet, I feel
The rapture
That was
When I was
There -
Dewey eyed
And nave.
Play on!

When you are young, you think about "all the things you are" so carefree with not a worry in the world. Then as you get older you begin to wonder if you have loved enough, prayed enough, lived enough, been good enough to others with more sincere thought. This is my interpretation of Addie's beautiful words. A spiritual and inner thought that we should pnder before it's too late to give all you can of your heart.
