I Held Him Close

This morning, as always,
he came to kiss me
before he left for the day,
and I reached out
and put my arms
around his neck
and gently pulled him
to my chest,
and I held him close
for a moment.

Last night I said,
"I'm glad we have each other."
Some people seem to think
that other ways are better,
but I held his hand
as we drifted off to sleep,
and this morning
when he kissed me,
I held him close.
