Before We Met

(For Markley)

With America
'neath my left foot
and Europe 'neath my right,
my head and sight
are the sun itself
and you are none of me.

Though if I turned
and set some paws
on South and Africa,
it's face becomes the Lion's
and you are none of me.

And so I thought,
We cannot be
so greedy with it all
and gave a portion back
from where it came.

And sending off in faith
I said, "Someday, somehow,
I will explain."

Before we met, I had it all
and you were none of me
And so I gave my world to you
that this our world could be.

This is so well-written- the first part of the poem with its unique images makes the end so romantic, truly beautiful- you handled it with a balance so that there's no cheesiness abou it.
