Dark as moon light slips thru the low hanging clouds

Slipping thru the jungle underbrush not making a noise

Only thing I feel is my sweat dripping from my brow

Step by step slowly I move until I see a shadow in the distance

Stopping to stare thru the dense foliage only making out a silhouette

Knowing this is my target tonight

Lowering my body to lie on the ground

I become like a snake to just slither along

Each inch becoming more deadly than a cobra

Not rushing taking my time planning how I shall strike

Now I am so close I smell the body odor

Hear his heart pounding and see eyes with fear

Within arm reach, lying still to watch before I strike

Then without warning like a cobra I strike

With arm around his chest holding tight

My free hand uses the knife

Swift and without a sound

My victim is left dead on the ground

Knowing you as I do, I know the circumstances surrounding this poem. It's very interesting to me that folks see it in so many lights - perhaps a positive testament to the true nature of this subject - time nor place have an anchor on it.

You put us right in the eyes of this killer - a rare glimpse from the other point of view.

Well done.

Hmm... for me this would have been difficult to do as I am not good at living without conclusions!! At least, you have in fact completed the suspense-filled scenario here, but have left us, I am sure, with many nagging questions as to who, what, when, why...etc! This is therefore, in my book, a very accomplished work as you leave us with lots to think about and ponder on! Well done! Thank you and take care!!!! Kate x

Very powerful and very well written.

Reviewed by Amira van Kerk 7/29/2004
That is quite something.
What or who is the victim?? I somehow got the impression it's a human being. Which makes the whole poem scary; leaving the question open: Why???
Excellent write though.

Tommy -

Haunting prose - well-conceived and written!

Yikes, Tommy.. though not lengthy, I found myself reading slowly, at the pace of the suspense.. only dropping a line at a time, scrolling, reading... you have a knack for delivering some full-impact poetry! This is superb! I was there, indeed! katy xox.

Tommy, I read and re-read this powerful, teeth-clenching, heart-stopping, nerve-shattering write, and just had to review it before I went to bed. (not that I will be able to sleep now mind you) Its just an absolutely incredible well-written piece. One must do what one must do. Excellent work my friend. Have a great weekend.
