Blue Sky Raining Mourning

Bless the children.

I turn off desperate reports, anchors hawking
our misery measured to ratings points.
Sitting within bruised moments of silence,
my soul's wailing rocks me to a distant drum,
the furious bubbling of blood through frayed arteries.
Outrage eats my spine.
Tears tap my wrists as alien mumblings...
"A man has beaten his two-year old daughter,
pummeled her to a fleshy blob.
She would not eat what was offered.
Her mother works graveyard shift."
Pummeled a baby to a blob...
Outside in the steet, ravens march a dirge,
uniform procession, not one out of step.
Blue sky rains down mourning.
I rock to the wailing of my soul.

An eye-popping write that awakens the need for change in the moral fiber of our families. We need to pray for souls such as this. Amen

I hear the voice of Ai (one of my favorite poets) in your work, Nordette ... who could ask for more? Can't help but think the first two lines could just as easily read:

"I turn off desperate reports, anchors hawking
our misery measured by outraged poets." It works both ways, yes?

Love that your Den homepage takes me Anita Baker; my day is now complete.

Could feel your soul being flayed alive here, Nordette. Shock and horror is such a curious mix of a total emotional and psychological abuse and of numbing disbelief and anaesthesia. You graphically pen the effects of the former here. I can feel the intensity of your soul trembling... Bless you, Kate xx

Some how appropriate to all the news about Pope John Paul. I am sure he would want less about himself and more about that kind of suffering.

Yes it's a media gone mad but I guess we
should be aware of this crime. Crimes against
children get me the worst. Your last line there
says it all.

You are so very right.

I thought blimey, what a great idea. And wrote to my MP.
Hard hitting. But the perpetrators should be
hit hard..

Nordette, I do so agree with Eileen, Sherry and Michelle. Even tho this is a very superb write for you, I will never, ever, understand why this kind of crime still goes on. It breaks my heart whenever I hear that a child has been abducted, beaten, chained up like a four legged animal, sexually abused, or even mwentally abused. Abuse is abuse, no matter what the damn "anchors" say. And yes, what teh anchors call professionalism, I too, call it insensitive. There is not one good reason for a grown adult, to beat a child. May the Lord Jesus bless you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peac on earth, & ((((((((((((MANY SISTERLY HUGGGGGGGSSSSSS)))))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

Insensitive is what i see as I watch the "anchors" blabbling away about the most atrociou things that happen. They would call it "professionalism," I call it insensitive.

If I live to be 100, I'll never understand someone who can abuse a child this way. Those sorts of monsters should have been drowned at birth rather than been allowed to grow up and inflict such pain and suffering on the innocent. Nordette, I can feel every shattering emotion of this piece. Blessings to you, Michelle

The more populated the world becomes, the more we will be made aware of this "in your face" reality. We cannot hide anymore. Not with all of the technological advances. We cannot pretend. A powerfully painful poetic offering, Nordette. Love and peace to you. Regis

If I live a thousand years, I will never understand this kind of crime. A baby with only trust and no defenses...no match for a grown man. How could he??!! When the Beast rises we must quiet it with understanding, introspection and patience, not feed it with violence. Excellent writing on a very sad subject.
Take care,
Sherry
