This is very deep, and could apply to anywhere in the world, and for anyone anyplace doing these unforgiving things to others. The brother that falls vicitm to the violence of the hatred of the world, and the sister who is raped repeatedly in everyday life, doing everyday things. Why must it be harder for us than for the men? Thank you for sharing Nouvelle.

What a staggering powerful write Nordette, Africa is a land of many contrasts and the birthing place of humanity, it is shamefully disregarded in the modern world, by those who are rich enough to exploit it to the full...it's about time things changed for the better. May the west wake up and do something...invole all 53 countries too.

I doubt if there will never be a final result. The richer are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer and more oppressed. And some African leaders getting richer in the process ofcourse! Money gets poured in alright but with conditions. Very difficult conditions. That's the circle. Survival of the fittest, as they say.

You speak words that we must all take to heart, Nordette. We speak about terrorism here, yet we neglect to look at Africa and see how it runs rampant there and is pretty much accepted as a fact of life. HIV is out of control and children are starving and dieing in the streets. Africa, much like Brazil, has great wealth and shameful, inhumane poverty.

| Only when the global concern is such that change is the ONLY option can "aid" truly be effective - in whatever form it takes, fiscal, environmental or social. Otherwise we are all still throwing what is more or less "cheap" to us (yes, money/goods in this way IS, I think, cheap - some of us have more money than sense! Or time: Britain is relatively money rich/time poor statistically - although of course it never seems like it!) Getting stuck into sorting out the causes of the problems, whether internal or external, takes time, effort and commitment... also much tact and diplomacy and a long, long haul in terms of time frame - longer than an individual governmental administration lasts for, often, so therein lies a great problem: consistency. And decisions are made, I suppose, within the mindset of "how will this effect me and MY country first and foremost" - rather than "what MUST be done to save Africa, and the impact on our own domestic koffers is secondary at this time in the world's history...". Sorry, ramble, ramble... and I'm not even thinkin straight... except to know this is another clarion call, Nordette, and, like a watchman on the walls, needs to be raised to get our sights up and out where they should be. No better person to do it. Diamonds on the soles of your feet, Lady, as they walk the path of peace unafraid: stout feet, soft heart! :)) LOL Kate xx |

Dear Nordette,
I live in Africa and the things you write of I havewitnessed first hand. This is a land of great contrasts and you've described it so well here. It seems that this has stirred up a bit of controversy and aroused very strong feelings. I hear your heart and I know what you're trying to achieve and I applaud you for this. I would hope that instead of feeling personally attacked, people will take your words to heart. All it takes for evil to exist is for good men to do nothing. Yes, it doesn't help to throw money at a problem but something has to be done. There is a genocide going on here.

A powerful follow-up to "Mother of our Flesh". The problem (or its inevitable solution) is not one of finances. It begins and ends with consciousness. The awareness that the Dark Continent is not a seperate piece of the puzzle, but an integral part of the world community is what we lack. When we can feel in our minds and hearts what our brothers and sisters suffer, then we can come together and wash the blood on the shores away in peace.

| What to do, that is the dilemma the world faces. Those who produced Live 8 and others expect the world, at least part of the world, to ante up more money. That is good. That always works, send money and wash your hands of the complete hell that some parts of Africa have become. Of course, clear-thinking people realize that money has never, and will never, solve the problem becaue IT ALL GETS STOLEN and never gets to where it is supposed to. What then? The money keeps pouring in but things become worse. What does the world do now? How do we change the mindset of the thugs and people who are in charge who DO NOT have Africa's best interests within their hearts? Invade and take them out? Naw. But something has to change. With the money the world constantly gives because to not give is food for the "racist" label, but with that money there must be some way to monitor it. I am afraid that will never happen, I am afraid that Africa is/has/will become the welfare country. We are being made to feel that we are not doing enough. What esle can we do? More money, oh, yeah, I forgot. |

I watched a special on tv the other night about just this kind of horror. They are calling for help, and from what I saw, without it, these people are not going to be able to survive much longer. Children, being forced to join a rebel's army, and made to kill, other children to make them tough. What a horrid existence. Women being raped and slaughtered while their children watch, or vice versa. They need our help..
Your writing makes it just as vivid as the film.

Your Brother Is your Brother, and your Sister Is your Sister, because You are One who cares, and feels, and shares her Love with them. This is poignant, realistic, and soulful, three of the ingredients that provide a blend of true spiritual Help... and there is no corporeal help that will really work if the spirit is neglected. I have worked closely, for many years, and actually lived the strife of Africans in more than one country of that beautiful continent, and... I'm well aware of many reasons why help does not reach them as fully and widely as it should.
