Rage is building
to a towering, fiery crescendo
within.

She tries so valiantly to claw
her way free.
But that rage,
that self loathing,
Personifies, becomes human,
and with razor-sharpness,
Its nails sink into her soft flesh.

What is wrong with her?
Why cant she break free
from its torment?

She struggles, caught in the flames,
as It laughs and mocks her.
Its voice, low and sinister,
prickles dreadfully along her skin,
like jagged spikes of steel.

It pulls her back down,
Down,
Down,
into the horrible depths of
Its lonely existence.

No one cares about you.

She cries out in despair,
someone please save her,
but its too late, as
Its black and oily darkness
overcomes her, smothers her,
chokes the cries in her throat.

...

But suddenly,
there is refuge from her pain,
literally a light amid the darkness.
A pin prick dot of gold that
pulls back the cover of inky-black.

Its a face she knows and loves,
and the voice that emits
is melodious and sweet,
like the tinkling of church bells
on a Sunday morning,

I love you, you are loved.

And that is all she needs,
to break free.

A great example of Love shall set you free
but remember we need to free ourselves regardless of love

April,
Oh My goodness you have captured this feeling all too well. I hope this is not written from your personal experiences but it must have been noone that's never been there could ever know these feelings and the power they have. The "solution" is exactly as you say, only not to be idle words. Idle words keep on going down never freeing them. I hope that you will send this to the crises centers and schools, drs, even the AMA, etc.. This would really help those affected by this or someone they know affected to get out of that deep darkness. Bravo on this poem!! May you always have that peace light and love in your life. Excellent!!! Masterfully written!!!

This gives believable voice to the demon and the angel. Sounds like you've had a chance to become acquainted with them both. Thanks for lighting a candle in a dark place.

April,

Many will identify with the depths of self loathing in this powerfully emotive write--but THANK GOD there was hope at the end. Empowering and thought provoking, an excellent piece.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(
