I stand on one side
of the empathic bars
Seeing what is humanity
with all the scars

Each one a sin
or downright shame
A young man's guilt
imprisoned with his blame

Raging demons
make their home
Each person here
an unwritten tome

A lonely woman
her choice of slow death
Her husband once begged
now only bated breath

Old men sit and stare
lonely days with deep regrets
They chose their poison
they lost their bets

The children of the limping one
they used to come and talk a bit
I heard their ultimatum
they walked away- he chose to sit

I see the pointless pain
I hear the scourging grief
They only ask of me
to give them false relief

Family pictures not on walls
only visions in their mind
Not one a happy picture
framed with axes that grind

Through tears of remorse
they keep coming to me
I'm your bartender
What will it be?
