From the other side of the counter

I'm just a clerk in a little store
I share moments with you and nothing more
These moments are special we've come to share
For in this time we've learned to care
I wait on you almost everyday
You stop for coffee then go your own way
We talk about things once in awhile
You pay for your goods then leave with a smile
I know you like your coffee black
You work very hard despite a bad back
You have three kids and love your life
I help you buy things to give your wife
Then suddenly you don't come in
I miss your smiling boyish grin
I miss seeing you and our little chats
I wonder why you never came back
Then someone says they heard you died
I never knew your name still I cried
