she gathers her sadness like
a cloak against the tides of life
she says "I put my faith in Jesus
so when is it supposed to be all right?
how can I believe when my next
heartbreak is just a tragedy away?"
and she buries her hopes at the bottom
of a bottle of whiskey and cocaine
little girl I can't tell you it's all okay
living's hard, but just existing is harder
look inside yourself and you'll find
there's more than just the anger you harbor

just let it go, leave it all behind
let yesterday rest and finally be done
you can't linger or you'll be lost
time stands still for no one
you know life is funny that way
and we never seem to really know
which path is wrong and which is right
but we have to just let it go

he looks up with confusion in his eyes
black and white photograph in his hand
he says "The baby's mine but she won't be
and I just cant' understand
I want my family but she says
that it's not in her plans"
and he buries his pride with the tears
and his head cradled in his hands
baby boy I can't tell you it's gonna be okay
but time seems to heal everything
emotions change us all from day to day
just be sure the change is one worth making

just let it go, leave it all behind
let tomorrow be where it's begun
you can't linger or  you'll be lost
time moves on for everyone
you know life is funny that way
and we'll never really even know
which path was wrong or which was right
but we just have to let it go

I lie in bed at night dreamlessly
watching the sleeping smiles of my daughters
I say "Please God watch them endlessly
never let them play near my dark waters
see they're my everything and I
don't want them to live with my mistakes"
and I weep bitterly over
past and future heartaches
and I can't tell anyone it's going to be okay
especially when my wounds are so plain to see
live in the moment, take what joys life may bring
and hold them close in your memory

just let it go, leave it all behind
live today like it's the only one
but don't linger or you'll be lost
time doesn't wait for anyone
you know life is funny that way
and I don't even care if I never know
which path was wrong or which was right
because I'm just going to let it go

you know life is funny that way
there's always words we forget to say
but we never really ever know
so we have to just let it go

Pure poetry in its intensity and longing for a better life for your children and yourself. Pray with your children everyday; give them something they can hold onto and look forward to when this life is over.

I gotta keep this. It is worth re-reading, different insights everytime.

A divinely inspired write. Made being awake at 04:30 worth it...
We can't turn the clock back, yet we can rewind it..
Stunning write, simply stunning..
