The Cloud

A cloud on my sky drifts across the sun

It never passes me by no matter how far or fast I run

When I raise my head it rains upon my face

When I bow low its shifting pace deals me a blow

There's a cloud on my sky it darkens my day

It weighs upon me with a sigh

It never goes away

That cloud bears a name I embrace and abhor:

The Past, the Past... to last and last...

Forever more.

Beautifully simplistic set-up to a complex ending which amazed me with its power, Gina, giving me a chill of a primordial sort.

Accurate observation, Regina. The past seems like something most of us need to learn how to let go of. Well done.

Wow, that last stanza is a bit scary. I know of the past, well, at least my own and I write about it a lot but I refuse to let it swallow me whole. ;)

I like this very much. You paint a descriptive picture with your metaphoric verses and your closing lines were excellently vivid. Another outstanding example of literary artistry at its very best.

Regina, the past never fades, it follows us all our lives. The coulds do fade, but what can we do about what we have done? Nothing but accept our lives and change them if we are dissatisfied. Your poem brought up old memories I would rather forget. Very well drawn and articulated. An excellent work. Bill Murray

Excellent writing.
Though we sometimes have the impression that these clouds never vanish and keep us away from the sunshine we desperately need - open your eyes and you will see the light behind that brightens your day.

I know this cloud, it might seem like it will never go away, but one day it will. In the mean time don't forget your umbrella.
