Relentless rains have chilled the air
To douse the earth
To nourish the soil for plants to be born
Yet St Peter played fair
And sent sunshine on Easter Sunday morn'
To delight countless children and their mamas
Bedecked with bonnets or in simple clothes
People step out in droves
To church, to church
To Brunch or lunch
At Grandma's or in the park
To celebrate Jesus Christ
Or simply to follow tradition
Or both
It is a joyous occasion
Whether you think of religion
Or of springtime's new hope
A beginning ...a resurrection
A symbolic time of fertility around the globe
There is the Easter Bunny
Revered long before Christ
For the way it survives and thrives
Baby bunnies hopping forth
And so it still goes...never a dearth
New grass greens
Trees are in bloom
No matter the politics, economics,
The laws and taxes crammed down our throats
Nature reminds us of all that truly matters:
Renewal, high spirits, the cheer a child's joy brings
The smile on your loved one's face
The fragrance of the lily of the valley
The lilac nodding over the fence
The aroma of coffee and warm toast
The soothing cool water
Balm to your throat
Everyone has his own cross to bear
No one truly can obey the ten commandments
And love his neighbor and turn the other cheek
By that token, we're all sinners
Still, we seek
To be good and kind
That's what matters most...
Let other people do their worst
But, you do your best!
Some things may change
Some things may look grim
But all that gloom
And all that fear
Can't take away
The joy of life
That is still here.
Happy Easter!
Gina
PS: Not to forget the beautiful tiny violets and the golden dandelions! They are in full bloom, together with red tulips...my own delights.
