A remark made by a stranger stayed with me...

A stranger once wrote to me:

"I can be a formidable enemy"

Somehow this remark made me sad

Had he but written:

"I can be a formidable friend"

I would have been glad

This tidbit from a brief email exchange

Stuck in my mind

Throughout several years

It contains a kernel of fears

And the reminder: one must be kind

It is part of the essence of finding purpose in life:

Does one want to live

Holding grudges?

Or does one want to forgive?
