Why not?

for the fun of it - again

Poems don't need to rhyme

All they need is a meter

Then why do mine?

'Cause I drink coffee by the liter

Now, what sort of reasoning is that?

Oh, just the sort that makes me feel bad

It does not! It does too!

So, what! As long as I entertain you.

Ah, you say, but this isn't worth beans

Nah, say I, so it only seems

But look I made you read this far and I'm not even touting my book

I whiled away your time and mine

You needn't ponder a thing this time

Happy or sad

Aha, you say, for that I am glad.

See? It isn't just me

Who needs a break from all the woe

You, too, my friend, could do with a little glee

Wasting your time just once

may set you free.

Right you are, Regina. Made me smile. Play is not a waste of time, is it? Word play or otherwise, keeping the child and whimsy alive in us all, at any age.
