Surprise someone with a personalized advents or child - republished but ever still valid - and I am delighted to note that this - of all of my AD posted poems - turns out to be the most read. Thank you so much! --

You need 24 empty matchboxes

pretty paper, shiny string and a winter song to sing

Fill each box with a square of pure chocolate or another tiny prize

and remember to watch the sun rise

Wrap each little box like a precious gift

Tie it with a tiny bow and if you're lucky: enjoy the snow

Pile your boxes on a Christmas platter or hang them from a garland of pine then treat yourself to a mug of mulled wine

On the First Day of December allow your dear One to open the first box to discover the little treasure and you'll see: anticipation brings a lot of pleasure

copyright 2003 RDP

P.S. For December the 6th - Nikolaus Day - and for December the 24th - Christmas Eve - you might choose to use a larger box with a 'larger' gift...(not a bad way to offer a romantic token of affection either). And if you don't celebrate Christmas, you might still count-down the days before your special holiday.

I do so love those advent calendars for years since my girls were so small. The children look forward to counting down the days and getting that sweet choc treat each day. It is amazing you write about it here and let us know a way to entertain the children early Dec til the day.

What a lovely idea Regina. So unique and special.

There is wit-wise message in "An Advent's Gift" that leads the readers thoughts, --at least this reader's -- to the cosmos of wonders and humanity. An enjoyable and fruitful composition indeed.

I salute You, Poet.

Great idea, beautifully wrapped!! The love you put in will not
be forgotten. Thank you for reminding me why I spend so much time
covering myself and everything around me with paint and glitter and cut-outs from cards. I am a bad wrapper. I admit it. The ends of the packages I wrap are lumpy, my bows cattywampus. But it really is the thought that counts. . .right? Thank you for this delightful
and highly creative offering, Regina. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that the new year fulfills your wildest hopes. 'Pea' Wearing Bells and Pointy, Polka-dotted Hat, and Raising a Glass of Diet Pepsi == CHEERS!!

Seet idea Gina - and very well explained. However, I must admit I did not try it out !! Not gifted enough or simply too lazy.
Sorry for having been so silent lately - too many things going on at the same time. I hardly ever find the time to sit and read, not to speak of writing myself.
Just wanted to wish you a wonderful Christmas and all the best for the New Year 2007.

You know what, Regina? Just HAPPENED to see your name pop up in the featured poets, and I clicked on it, because, well, frankly, the surname "Pounds" fascinates me. It is a good thing I DID drop by.

I have taken a look at a couple of your poems so far, this one and your "contest" one. And what I see charms me to no end.

You definitely have the knack. You fascinate me.

I am a very, very serious-minded poet and author, E-Zine editor (3 poetry e-zines), book publisher etc., and I generally do not go too far amiss in my intuitive "take" on new poets I encounter.

I warmly invite you to visit my Author's Den (while it is still up) and to check out some of my own poetry. I should very much like to communicate with you on professional matters and literary co-operation in the near future, as it appears you will have a lot to offer our growing international family of poets from at least 10 nations.

When you select my AD, select the FIRST "Richard Vallance", not the second, as the second AD is my "old" den and there is nothing in it to speak of.

I shall now go on to take a gander at some of your other poems.

Great to meet you.

Bye for now,

Richard Vallance,

What a lovely idea, Gina! :) Hmm, expanding on this idea, I could have the girls wrap their own mathcboxes, to keep them busy, you see, when I need some time to think and write...yeah, keep 'em busy, thanks! ;)
