You walk, create confusion, tear down the planets,
sneak under my skin and trouble me
with a love so alarming that even God's
shouting goes unheard.

I am a man in your hand,
do not kill me.

Do not kill me yet,
not until I know
why the trees attempt
to shake down the sky,
and why the simplest life forms
are capable of taking away religion.

I am a man in your land of asphyxiation,
where your love is a danger to breath,
and nature is but unfortunate window-dressing
to your stage of annihilation.

Do not kill me yet,
not until I safely place my humanity
in my world of spiritual triumph,
not until I know the meaning
of you consuming me from under my skin
and watching me ignite in the cup of your hand.

Here is your love on the beastly beach of tone-deaf truths,
and here I am in your hand, in your beached philosophy,
in your grand epic of violent colors burning out the sea
and dancing vehemently on the peace of the young wind.

Here I am, the victim of malnourished love,
the love that is picking the scraps off of my bones,
while God's shouting goes unheard,
while my humanity and spirituality spar
for the prize of gently placing you aside
and letting me forget why I still love you.

I want to forget that and more.

This is a newer poem that is not in MERCY HAT. I enjoy this one.
