Homing pidgeons return once again
A green woodpecker seemed to wonder when
Above the fireplace the lady smiles
Appreciating our driving all those miles.
Fresh strawberry jam and scones await
Boil the kettle and fill the plate
Was it really only one year ago?
Well just a little more, a week or so.
This Cornish Cottage has made its mark
Nearby guardian dogs growl and bark
The crows crack out their presence too
Natures's voices heard out of view.
Yet perfect silence greets my ear
Branches sway to a fox's leer
And rabbits run about so loose
While from the court, a shout of "Deuce"
The strains of life soon have vanished
Relaxed, repaired, renewed, yes, banished
To face another year away
With vivid memories of each Cornish Day.
