A Son’s Advice To A Single Mom
She looked across at him and smiled
A contented smile of sacred love
Eighteen years she fretted
This gift God had sent her from above
She had soothed him through his teething
Wiped tears away at schools first day
Sat shivering at every sports field game
The price she so willingly did pay
She kissed away his little boo boos
Put band aids on with gentle hand
Listened to his bedtime prayers and wishes
She always tried to understand
She recalls him proudly waving his license
The first time he took her car alone
And his first date choked her up a lot
Knowing soon he’d leave her home
A single mom she had struggled to survive
To make a home for her little man blue
Now her little man was all grown up
She wasn’t so sure now what to do
But he held out his arms and embraced her
Saying Mom it’s time for you to start
To find the love that you deserve
It’s ok with me if you share anew your heart.
