It is hard when after spending thirty years of one's life in the service of ones country to suddenly find yourself shafted on every front by the very government who gave you a fancey scroll signed by the countries leader and a gold ring, to thank you for your service not to get bitter when you are screwed by them without so much as a kiss in foreplay. Anyway this is just a ramble nothing more but just needed to get it off my chest I guess...sorry if it is kind of downer.

Just Rewards…

By: Fee

Alone again in the gloom of fading light

Chasing final shadows well into the night

He hears the echo of his own silent voice

Lord he grows weary from the daily fight

Too many battles he has won and lost

Too much this pain his heart has cost

Teardrops to rainbows will not become

His warmth now feels like a chilling frost

Wears a painted smile hides his true fate

The predators of life are all at his gate

Ready to pounce to pick his very bones

And he tires more and more of late

A modern day knight he served his land

Thirty years he gave you understand

Then when age and health both let him fall

In gratitude they placed a golden band

Framed scroll signed by the King’s own hand

You’ve earned your rest for being grand

Then home he went contented for a time

Pensions you’ll get so you’ll do just fine

The first letter came to say you must pay

We overpaid you but now it’s your crime

Then the pensions came and took their blood

Another error made we’ll half this flood

Oh don’t forget us the noble taxman said

They took what was left and called him crud

Now medications are beyond his means to pay

His second mortgaged house will soon be taken away

His every day is filled with fret and worry

He’s lies and tells his family he’s okay

Nights are now spent often pacing floor

Wondering if why the devils at his door

He once was proud now he feels like a bum

Cleans his gun as he ponders life once more…

I have heard from many who have walked in those footsteps and it doesn't get any easier, at least a kiss to warm up to the screwing you are getting. Thank you for sharing Felix.

SHAME on them and hoooooray for Fee :o) (update -'them' is the wrong wording -it's society, the 'us', who need to try and improve matters like the one you are speaking about here :)

As we sung in my part of the woods, "from the hall of Montezuma..." we were honorably discharged and got Montezuma's Revenge, and with it nobody want to screw you, not even with a kiss.
Peace brother!

Far too many valiant vets, in both your country and mine, have very similar sentiments these very sad days.

Heartbreaking; our veterans deserve better than a kick in the ass, which is what they are getting! Sad!! God bless you, and thank you for your service; it was not in vain!

There are many heroes in this world that have never received accolades for their accomplishments and some have paid the ultimate price. Yes, some who get recognition get shafted but at least we're alive to tell it. Just last week President Bush awarded the Medal Of Honor to a Mother who lost her son in Iraq. He threw himself on a grenade to save the lives of his squad. I'm sure in all honesty she would gladly give up the medal for her sons life. We all complain because we are human and that's our nature but in reality our gift is our life. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.

Sad, poignant write...but I can tell you that things are no better here in Italy...maybe in some ways even worse, as far as social services and corruption go..

ANY that served his or her country faithfully, honorably, should be given the best that country has to offer, as payment - shame, how Veterans are shafted by their governments. I know the pain, the anger, of which you speak - at least you got a gold ring. :( Excellent expression of frustrated sadness - I hear you. Thank you for your service.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(

Hey Fee,
Your too resilient, creative, conquering and wonderful to hang your head in defeat. Your surrounded by lemons. Come on my dear man its time to make Lemonade!

Its appalling how the vets are treated when they are fortunate enough to make it back home. They are our heros, but are treated more like criminals. Fee, you deserve alot more than you are getting. God bless you always, my friend.

Dearest Felix,
Very disheartening when those you thought were there aren't quite what they seemed to be, and don't honour promised rewards... quickly forgetting who and what they once valued. Stay positive Beautiful Fee.. and put that gun right away.....
Thankfully our karmic repayments are always honoured.. whether in the life or on...... karma balances all scales!
Love and Eternal Friendship, Suzie :-D

Here in St. Petersburg we have a tent city for homeless service people. They have good food, a little security and health benefits should they need it. It's amazing how well protected these vets are and huge companies are donating money to help them live while others find them homes and jobs. I'm proud of Florida for what they do in this positive manner.
Just want to pass on a positive way humanity is giving back to our fine vets.

Blessings and love,

Living in the country was wonderful for Little Henry. He loved riding his bicycle on the dirt roads, but he should never have ridden it in the dark.....
