Am I Good Enough

Am I Good Enough?

Sometimes when alone I stop to ponder

Searching the wounded ego of my heart

If I am good enough for her to love

That’s usually when I almost come apart

You see all I have to offer is my heart

Over time it’s been damaged and repaired

That, plus the words I say to her each day

During those few fleeting moments shared

Yes, I know I can be my own worst enemy

Doubting the man in the looking glass

Who say’s:

“She loves you for who you are,

so stop being such an ass!”

I immediately recalled Sen. Al Franken when he used to do his 12 step program on Saturday Night Live, looking into the the mirror and declaring, “I am good enough.…”

Your poem appears to be about someone doubting one's love. Where there's smoke there's fire and the doubts are probably well-founded.

Nice one Fee. A universally asked question. Unfortunately, if we answer yes, we sometimes stop trying to improve and if we answer no, we sometimes give up all together. My advice? Stop asking and just live. Dick
