Holiday Blues

~ Holiday Blues ~

presents all opened and admired

safely secured for travel

one last toast offered

glasses raised high

hugs and smiles all around

waving them off with tears

in front of the fireplace

wine glass half empty

staring into the flames

I put my holiday face away

letting in those private thoughts

I hide behind a smiling face

in this self imposed solitude I am not  alone

holiday doldrums drape shroud like over me

walking into my shadow places

taking indecision and confusion with me

answers still remain illusive

playing hide and seek with my equilibrium

fragmented thoughts and memories

peeling outwards one upon the other

in an intricate labyrinth

of overlapping whorls

coiling together

in convoluted images

yet memories strand me on the barrier of loneliness

in my personal void of isolation

I can completely identify with the sentiments so vividly expressed in this poem, Carole. You have reached the depth of my soul with your words. Happy New Year to you with love and peace,

Unfortunately there is a lot of depression around the holidays. To me it is the most wonderful time of the year. Old griefs are suspended and most make merry. If not, exclude them from your crowd. Who needs the grief. You set the mood very well with this work. It is all attitude and some attitudes really suck.

Have a great New Year.

Telling it like it is for a lot of people. I think this kind of problem with the aftermath of the Christmas season is one reason I quit becoming so excited about it. About eighty percent of it is false anyway. As Bill would say, I feel your pain.

A powerful introspective portrait that haunts and intrigues.

Truly hope the New Year brings much happiness, Carole, and that it chases away those Holiday Blues.

You paint this portrait well, Carole. I can see it clearly and it is done with a masters touch. Though blue is the dominant color there is the palette still to be used.

Be blessed in the New Year!

Love,

Eileen
