~ Under Neon Stars ~

As the sun sets
and darkness slides upward
cloaking the stark realities of the city
neon lights twitch and lay down their glow
streaking across dirty back streets
colors are smeared across puddles
between scattered pieces of alley trash
bluesy music escapes through cracks
of aging sooty brick structures
lonely hearts put on their evening wear
attire for roaming the streets
and smoke filled dimly lit bars
looking for love, another chance at romance
in a back corner under neon stars
they resemble tissue paper
between the pages of emotional flares
and complicated stages
where no more is required
behind closed doors
but the occasional fling
desire’s fires and cheap passions soar
turning out the lights
‘til dawn begins a new day
but daylight will bring reality
of tawdry passions chased in midnight’s way
where blood boils hot and
visions blur with false truths
and a warm partner is found
quivering lips, willing and made for sin
invite a flight into the grip of oblivion
for a few delusional hours
they hide under the blanket of darkness
until misconception at last soars
within the arms of a stranger
a night of unrealistic hope
a moment of escaping the solitude
where neon illusions
are as flimsy as  tissue paper dreams

Seamless, and I love the flow... just like those sulty silk stockings I am imagining that go with this! The textures you write with here are lovely - full-bloodied and senuous; fragile and concerned. An honest account, crafted with great care and sensitivity, highlighting both the seamy-side of life and the sad. And how often the two are inextricably linked. Thoughtful work, thank you. Kate xx

This flowed from beginning to end, where the ending was so special. I love the last two lines.

Again, a superb and memorable collaboration. From the neon stars
to the tissue paper dreams, you captured it all--the grit, the loneliness, the hunger, the sad realization that the one-night
stand is all too often "a night of unrealistic hope." This, to me, is a work of art. -gene.

"...looking for love...of tawdry passions chased in midnight's way..."
Like standing under those neon stars, taking that elusive and artificial blink that we self delude ourselves are blinking only for us, because we wish, we want, we hope for that explosive hope that's called love...

How well and delicately you describe a scene that plays over and over from lover to lover. Excellence beyond thoughts and a portrait of life worthy of preserving...

Carole and Jon,
Teeming with strong visuals and a current of sadness...the nightly rituals of hope, casual partnering, the search for love, the settling for gratification...and the sheer bleakness of it all. Congratulations! You've excelled once again.
