The Flag

A flash of color beneath the cloudless sky

as along the street they come

marching to the blare of bugles

and the sounds of drums…

Daddy, Daddy hold me high

hats off

the flag is passing by

proudly held high

catching a breeze it flies while

unchecked tears etch old cheeks

as veterans honor old glory

hats off

the flag is passing by

Sparklers waving back and forth

in small eager hands

stray balloons float upwards

as bands march by

while hearts swell with pride

from children’s hands firecrackers fly

Daddy, Daddy hold me high…

How many tears must fall

before they all come home

hats off

the flag is passing by

Haiku

painting the night sky

reflected in children’s eyes

colors of freedom

Carole, how well you choose the words to verbally paint that which, hopefully, will remain within the times of our lives, our children's and their children's lives then onward, forever.
May God continue to bless America!

Carole,

This old veteran honors you for remembering sacrifices made and paid by those who serve(d), as well as their families - and the haiku is the clincher, the finale - beautifully imaged verse.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Carole, you have painted the sky and my emotions with National pride and renewed the emotions I feel each time I see our flag waving on high -- patriotism is something America seems to be a little short on lately -- too many want to fault our accomplishments and proclaim they were acts of arrogance -- peace and love my dear friend -- Jon Michael

Carole, you do great honor to the flag, to the nation it
represents, and to those who fight the wars to see that it
continues to wave. I cherish the flag though I continue
to speak out against the insanity of war. -gene.

both the introduction poem and the Ku are as red white and blue as you can get. They do honor to the flag and to the men and woman who defend and honor it. Well done Carole
