Wandering Thoughts

I lay awake

bone moaning to bone

whispering tales

of long ago litheness

the curtains coyly parted

by an errant breeze

leaving a ribbon of dusty light

flecked with listless dust

I find myself interested

intrigued even

by the way time erases real lives

leaving only vague imprints

blood and spirit fade away

only names and dates remain

mere fragments

that flit within the memories

of those they once knew

when passing moments

rule the night

hovering winsomely

and landing exhausted

the way that sadness

got stuck

in the corners of her eyes

Carole - Enjoyed "Wandering Thoughts" and your use of imagery to make thoughts and feelings physical. The last stanza is especially effective:

the way that sadness

got stuck

in the corners of her eyes

I'll be back to read more.

I miss so many lovely persons that I once knew but who are no longer with me. My memory of them burns brightly and will never fade even while my sadness at their absence aches in my heart.

I'm saved only by my belief that we will once again share ourselves in the House of God.

A soulful, insightful offering.

With thanks and respect,
Richard

Carole,
I admire everything about this poem, its thought, feeling and language, and in particular how the tone softens progressively from start to finish and ends with "the corners of her eyes"...

Csrole this one was so intrinsically done that it let my mind also reflect on the things in life and people who have seemingly slipped away in the past somewhere never to be seen again except in idle thoughts now and then. wonderful work.
