Mutually assured destruction, it hasn't gone away...just changed shape.
Dr Strangelove lived in a MAD, MAD, World
When fail-safe was the watchword.
When bellicose tyrants spat rhetoric
Astute diplomacy was overheard.
Deterrent, a paradox of peace
Is now a silent uncanny menace.
An anvil for shoeing fairies
a tinderbox, kindling dry,
strike the flint, watch the scintilla
enjoy a brief happy death.
To be reborn again in light,
a deterrent undercut.
