From a world of orchids and roses
You stepped with rose-petalled feet,
With the soul of a child
Into the every-hungry abyss -
Devourer,
Destroyer
Of innocent souls
And murderer of innocence,
Why can't you let
One little dream,
One little flower
Live?

Why dost thou devour
The children of joy
As thou devourest
Thine own?

Meenakshi,
A candle
With the light of eyes meant
To adore
And meant to be adored,
Meenakshi
Of lotus-budded beauty meant
To caress
And meant to be caressed,
To love
And to be loved,
This ray of sunlight
Which our hearts
Thirsting for beauty
Knew by the name of Meenakshi
Eclipsed

 Torn to pieces
Like a doll
Uncomprehending,
Dead
So still, so dreamless
Your last moment
When resignation broke
Your eyes
What did you know
Of the abyss
Devouring our lives!
What did you know of this world in which there is no
Forgiving,
Where every move draws
Every move
And every move draws
Blood!

 Meenakshi,
Holi-coloured
Dove-eyed
Kumari,
From every wound you suffered
There flows,
Like splintered glass
My blood

How dark,
Meenakshi,
Sister,
Daughter
Has the light of the world grown
Since the day
You departed!
How do you suffer, o soul
A world that destroys,
Like children's innocence and beauty,                                                            Its most perfect
Reflections?

Although it is true that your life and your traces
Are preserved in every life
And trace
And every atom of existence
Comprises you
Wholly
On both shores of the ocean
That knows not birth
Nor death
My bleeding heart, Meenakshi
Cries:
With you dies
Every dream
