Contemplating Geology

That light unseen, untouched,
lost to the stars and the cold moon
Is a frozen fire
made molten by another’s hand     Stand-in
skimming the surface of my skin
He hovers like some dark angel
over my topography, seared by the heat

The fault is mine     Earth cracks
and a need long diffused flows
from the fissures and here in liquid
I bubble and burst as pressured plates
shift
        and move me
to desire
While a moon halved by the sun
holds us in gravity, undone

I hiss, steam, expand    Then cool
into folds hardened by the air    Your breath
a chill on my skin    His fingers run water
along the length of my leaded form
I contract and curl inside myself     Untouched
Lost to the stars and the cold moon
A frozen fire

Hi L.G., I think you should keep on contemplating if this is what it does to your pen! You have given geology another meaning... thank you for sharing this...

Linda,
"The fault is mine" - what a line! And that's just one of many excellent lines and devices in this wonderful poem, up there with the very best. This is such a satisfying experience in every way.

This is one of my favorites of yours. Exquisite writing, indeed. I particularly love:

"The fault is mine Earth cracks
and a need long diffused flows
from the fissures and here in liquid
I bubble and burst as pressured plates
shift
and move me
to desire..."

Descriptive images come to life beneath your lines and words...could be taken for symbology of life and love or as just simple poetry of nature but either way it is stunning.

Those that have witness by night the flow of lava moving to the sea in Hawaii will remember the hot air, the pungent scent, the red and yellow hues slithering among dark grays and coal blacks.
We, once, were part of it.
