Then, just like that, the dream ends:
You're back at the cliff edge,
A little more aware
Of the choice

On this side, the ground's underfoot
Things are comfortable
You know what to buy
Everyone's here
The cheaters, the liars, the television-watchers
The desperate, the poor, the rich
The drama-mongers, sniffing out every misdeed of their husbands, wailing to their friends
The careful, the sad, the lonely

The little decisions are the hardest here
Like you're putting off the significant ones
Giving yourself penance
Maybe you've wandered so far from the edge, you've forgotten it's there
But at night, you sense it, and cry in regret
The hugeness and beauty, the gorgeous terror of the endless canyon

Things seem more real here
But maybe it's just more familiar
Because, there are those clues…

If you go back to the edge,
And stay as close as you can,
You'll remember sometimes
And jump off in a dream

I like it, Jennifer. A lot. Somehow I'm reminded of what I picked up from my Philosophy I professor: What is is as it is to me...and you.
Or something like that. Gene.

Throw caution to the wind and go to the edge...but stay sure-footed. Again, your style is effective, and not affected. Pure poetic words; I like that!
