The walls sneak up and divide
And we have cubes and halls and freeways between
Are we supposed to think like this, then?

Rivers become moot
Replaced by tunnels and pipes
Where we find our only water

Bodies decay more quickly here
But we have our props, our drugs, our lotions, our butchers
The comfort of things we see with our eyes

We peek out from under a wall, from under a drug,
And the trees need us to need them
The earth rebels against our hatred and indifference

Singing helps and dancing
And sitting still, saying "hello"
To whoever's inside

Is the world smaller or larger
Than where I am with you
We are in everything
We are of everything
When you are with me

Does the sea reach for the shore
Or does the shore need the touch of the sea
Does the sun call out to the trees
Do the waves beg for the moon
Do the stars need to see the earth at night
To warm their dark days
