in the beginning
when our lives together
we yearned to know the mysteries of our beings
savor the appetites of our emotions
embrace our glee as we we did our
sweaty bodies
wear each other's skins
when they became unbearable to
live in
then time (and its malignant minions)
twined its own spells
leaving stupefying insouciance in its wake as it
rushed through our lives
coloring our breath
our ambition
our bed in a
languid charcoal malaise
i've come to realize it's
futile to map the path that
brought us face to face with the
same castigating questions
echoing in our eyes
our mouths
our loins
crumbling through our fingers as we
clinch the fists of our lives
leaving our juices dry
we go on creating eclipses in each others space
wearing chain mail to bed
while concealing our shiveled auras
behind our glass walls and
trap doors over
Sutter Home and cigarettes
through the lingering ache of
remaining in one position for too long
one of us agitates the
stagnant quagmire
we cultivated
through years of paying homeage to the
fraudulent reflections we
saw in everyone else's eyes
while closing our own
disturbing the fragile guises
covering the windows of our torpidity
revelations surge through the fissures of our
consciousness endeavoring to chip away at our
calcified reality
hardened with layers of apathy
where we buried the imprint of our dreams the
forsaken memories of our love
tossed indifferently in
laundry hampers
un-scraped dinner dishes
crumpled sheets and the
overflowing ashtray of
our history together
beneath layers of
fossilized moments we may
excavate a subtle semblance of the
persons we were
in the beginning
when our lives together
were blameless

Dear Mari,

Amazing, you have me truly lost for words, it's like a movie playing so many true life dramas, your last stanza concludes the story line of so many. Beautifully captured what a talent Mari :)

This poem, "insidious insouciance" is a deep philosophical and poetic depicting of emotions and reasons, poemized with energy of knowledge, and poetized with words of wisdom dictated by a heart that pumps science and wonders.

Blest be the eyes that read "insidious insouciance".
