Breaking up a friendship is hard to do. Sometimes it takes very little, but other times, it takes mental illness to kill a friendship and almost a person...

Today it finally sunk in

You are gone, you are really gone.

Today there was no part of you left in your soul.

Today I saw your eyes and they were cold.

Remember when we first met?

When we realized although we were roommates,

We truly loved and respected each other tremendously.

Today, there was only hate for me.

Remember all those days when we sat and drank coffee and talked?

We talked about nothing and yet, everything.

We gossiped about each other’s families.

Today, there was none of the laughter.

It’s sad to say good-bye but for my own sanity

It has to be said.

I’ve hoped against hope to see my friend once more.

But today, I saw nothing of her left.

So I will leave your life soon,

I hope someone will keep in touch

So I know how you are doing.

Today, was my last day with you.

You frighten me and I’ve never been frightened before.

I’ve got silent tears within my soul

Because I was afraid to show them to you.

Today our friendship died…

Good-bye Virginia…

Its hard to walk away from a friendship but sometimes you have too. I had to do that in this past year. First time I have ever walked away from a friend .....but sometimes you have to , as you say, for your own sanity.

Dear Claywoman,

This certainly brought tears to my eyes, so painfully sad to see a friend slip away. May she find peace, and sending you love and good wishes.

Beautifully written.

I am so sorry for this extra hurting, that you are having and though I know you will take it in the way you have all the other pains, you may feel like me, that a living person dying on you, in this way, is far worse, than them dying whilst they still know and love you, giving you a proper chance to say goodbye. When she is finally gone, her spirit will remember the love you once had for each other. xxx

this is both lovely and sad...and I can relate to it only too well. I had two best friends in high school..we were as close as brothers.
We all went into the service...two of us went to Vietnam.
My one buddy lives in Michigan and we still keep in contact. The other, who followed me to Vietnam, came home scarred forever. He does not know us now and try as we may, we no longer know him.
Excellent write, lady poet!

Sad, but yes, sometimes life does that to us and our relationships. I just broke off a friendship myself, and I know all too well what you mean.

My heart is heavy for you, Claywoman, as I can feel your pain
and understand the weightiness of this decision. I had to make
a similar one, recently, and the scars will take a long time
healing.

As one who lived with a schizophrenic, I can honestly tell you how much pain I feel in this. It brought tears and old pain resurfaced. I'll never forget the painful ending of that relationship.

I'm so very sad - for both of you. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Hugs,
Tami
