"Sweet Dreams for Soda"
(For Kristina and Dana)

When I wake up in the morning
I know Soda will be there
Out there in the garden
To breathe the morning air

I pick her up and snuggle her
I really love her smell
And when I kiss her kitten nose
She kisses me as well

I let her sleep upon my bed
She curls up in a ball
It’s just our little secret
But we don’t mind at all

I love the way she prances round
When we let her in
Her fur is sweet and fluffy
And warm against my skin

Up on the couch, she purrs and sleeps
I tease her furry ear
Her paws are gentle on my hand
I know she has no fear

Even though I know she’s old
And one day she will leave
It’s okay to miss her so
And it’s okay to grieve

In the place she loved best
In the garden of my house
She went to heaven in her sleep
As quiet as a mouse

We made a place just for her
And placed her with our toys
And thanked her for all she gave us
The fun times and the joys

She’s up in heaven now
In a garden with a tree
Just like where she lived with us
And where she will be free

We love our Soda pussy cat
We’ll miss you but we know
You had a good life here with us
And now it’s time to go

I have a little spot outside
Where I can go and see
That you are still here in our hearts
Where you’ll forever be
