'Absence makes the heart grow fonder'- certainly true as I wrote this while my partner was away on a business trip. Our first time apart since we met.

‘She’

She’s the one thing I believe in

When all else lets me down

I love her face and her smile

I even love her frown

Her eyes the mirror of my light

Reflecting back to me

She doesn’t know how much I know

It’s in her eyes, I see

I’ve never known how much it means

To ponder on her face

Though she doesn’t always realise

It’s touched by God’s good grace

I have no reason for my love

My love for this sweet soul

I feel we’ve both been here before

Trapped in a deep, dark hole

There was no hand to lift us up

No one to share the sorrow

No more wishing death would come

Now we have tomorrow

I found my spirit long ago

I slowly learnt to care

But what’s the point in loving me

When no one else is there?

I don’t know how we did it

We should both be gone by now

But fate stepped in and captured us

We fell in love somehow

My soul is blessed because of her

I never thought I’d feel

A love so pure and freeing

For once my life feels real

I watch her while she’s sleeping

And wonder why on earth

God sent me such a person

Who thinks she has no worth

Perhaps she just had no one

Who ever really knew

How much she could really give

Despite what she’s been through

I don’t see her pain and hurt

I’ll never see her fear

I just feel peace and comfort

Whenever she is near

I sit and weep when she is gone

Though she will return

My soul is halved, my heart is empty

Flames of love still burn

I don’t know why I love her

But fate has played a part

She looks at me with loving eyes

Forever in my heart

Who is this person that I love

Who knows why she came?

I only know that she’s the one

And I’ll never be the same
