A banshee wind whips dead branches
Lashing sharp against my skin
Pale wraiths with bloody hands
Reap their bitter fruit
Sowing dissension in the fields
Thick as locust swarms
Soul writhing in anguish
My maddened eyes wide open
As you smile piously
You say you’ve seen the face of God
Which God is that?

I want to scream
The wind howls into the dust
Blowing ashes to the sky
Sanctified smile painted on your face
Mocking eyes as you speak your plastic prayers
Praising with faint damns
Lip service to your faith
Forgiveness just another word
In your arsenal of half truths
The banshee wind shrieks your lies
Across the burning sand

Faith-Yours is rooted deep in Mammon’s cave
Counting coins like rosaries
Are there thirty pieces of silver?

Charity-Of course you say (it begins at home)
Looking away from the homeless man starving at your feet
Your lip curls in a feral sneer

Hope-Gleams so bright in your conquests
Plotting rivals downfall in your dreams

Love-Plenty of that
Your favorite thing, preening in the mirror
Damning others with faint praises
And still that sanctimonious saccharine grin
Do you see truth in the mirror?
Maybe you do see the face of your gods
As you smile at yourself

The banshee wind calls out again undeniable
The wraiths choke on their poisoned fruit
“What God? They all demand the name
Hate or Greed or Lust?
Or is it your own name you hold so dear?
Banshee wail, smashing mirrors
My hands bleed red words
Lacerated to white bone
Your Gods maybe,
but never mine

Very angry, very raw, finger in the wound under the skin, deep underneath where the point is and where the world starts to be what it is, there and nowhere else. There's more to this than writing. There's the scream and the curse and that damn passion, a shout like a seagull in the storm. Which drowns out which?

If there is something that does get under my skin (and there are a few believe me lol) it is hypocrisy. People who preach one thing and practice another. An excellent poem with an excellent message. Well done!

Powerful statement and truly one I can emphazize with, I have had as strong feelings of my 0wn and have also drawn similiar conclusions. We have the free will to make up our minds without being preached to.
