Title poem

My Soul is not for Sale!

And the devil said to me
Hate your fellow brother
Rape and disrespect your sister
Don’t be a father to your children
I said in a soft voice “ My Soul is not for Sale!”

And the devil said to me
Be a follower, and never lead
Hate yourself, push drugs on your people
Kill everyone you see
I said in a sharp voice “My Soul is not for Sale!

And the devil said to me
Don’t believe in Allah
Take drugs, smoke, drink, destroy yourself
Never help anyone, Never get an education
I said in a loud voice “ My Soul is not Sale!

And the President said to me
Love the Patriot Act
Embrace the war
Hate others around the world
I said in a low voice “My Soul is not for Sale!”

And the President said to me
Fellow what I say, Do what I say
Believe in my lies
Don’t think for yourself, Live in fear
I said in a sharp voice “My Soul is not for Sale!

And the President said to me
I need your vote for a stronger America
I placed people of color in the highest cabinet positions ever
I am a good fair man
I said in a loud voice “My Soul is not Sale!”

And my boss said to me
Wash my car, Shine my shoes
You will go far in this company if you kiss my ass
Sell out your co-workers, be loyal to me
I said “My Soul is not for Sale!

And my boss said to me
Deal with the people I tell you to deal with
Spy for me, Destroy those who don’t obey
Stab people in the back just to make it to the top
I said “My Soul is not for Sale!

And my boss said to me
I rule with an iron fist. Rule with me
Sell out your black people, be my uncle tom
Be my house nigger
I said defiantly “My Soul is not for Sale!”

My Soul is not for Sale!

Vaughn, That is really a good poem! It is too bad other people give in to those things so easily. It takes a strong person to stand up and say they won't give in to those types of things. God Bless You Sincerely, Lori Reed

I appreciate this poem...perhaps it will make me more aware as to when I may be inadvertently placing my soul up for sale.

Wonderfully phrased!

This is a powerful, timely, relevant poem that speaks to the everyday struggles of most African-Americans. Well done.

If more people had the integrity, the strength to answer "my soul is not for sale", the whole world would change.

I am not an idealist, I am a realist: if we are not overcome by fear, the world will really change.

Very insightful and well-crafted piece of writing!

Greetings,

Axilea

Reading MY SOUL IS NOT FOR SALE! brings to mind the Biblical verse, "Render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's. Render unto heaven, that which is heaven's." Few exercise such a definitive sense of personal spiritual integrity these days but this poem is a strong reminder of the value of such integrity.
