The Message

Do we need the Christmas message,
“Peace on earth, goodwill to men” ?
Aren’t we now sophisticated ?
Haven’t times moved on since then ?

See the hungry babe who’s crying,
Child of God, without a home;
See the refugee who’s fleeing
Ask the victim of the bomb.

Go ask the bandit on the hillside,
Or the leaders in the city:
Ask the warlords wreaking havoc,
Killing, maiming without pity.

Go ask around the world’s four corners,
Hear the weeping, only then:
Will we see the world so needing,
“Peace on earth, goodwill to men.”
