Anyone in a creative endeavor has at least two drives. One is an inner, undeniable urge to create. The other can be deeper, less explainable: a sense of purpose. Explianable ot not, we dwell on it, maybe just a little, sometimes a lot. Here's one such mulling.

Maybe what I do here
Is just a minor riff
In a major work.
Does it matter then
If I practice, pay my dues
Or ring the changes?
I never really know.
Still I do it,
Hear it. learn it, play it,
As honestly as I can,
Stumble my way toward music.
Otherwise it's only noise.

| Aw, yes, but you know that the orchestra is made up of each individual pieces of musical knowhow and instruments. Get them all together, sometimes the sax will shine, sometimes the flute, but when it is all said and done, it is the orchestra which is the star. We are but bit players, but we can do no less than our best according to our abilities. Thank you for allowing me to ramble on. |
