Boss’s Day(z)
And so we gather here to play
At celebrating Boss’s Day.
A boss, with his straight-backed sternness,
What does he really do in earnest?
He sits, he mulls, perhaps decides
In the comfy chair where he resides.
There may be times when what she does is
Weighty stuff, not fluffs and fuzzes.
But she does look right and knows her part:
How to fill that box upon a chart.
Don’t ask why the boss’s with us.
We’ve need each other, God forgive us.
You can cast a bon mot or perhaps a florin
At the feet of our resident oxymoron.
You can do it it with a flourish, add a bow,
Insurance that you’ll keep your job – for now.
But does false praise make a special day
Or can we say thanks in a better way?
Why not improve in your daily work,
Doing your best, shunning chances to shirk?
Thank with good humor, even truth that’s hard,
Give a real reward, along with that card.
