We recently discovered, to our astonishment, a family of rats living in the wood pile behind our yard. There are no sources of food back there whatsoever, so we figure the only thing they could possibly be living on had to be the doggy "treasures" that we had gotten lax about cleaning out in the wintertime. Needless to say, we were less than thrilled, but the Muse found it useful.

Pests
My thoughts scamper madly like the rats behind the wood pile scrounging shit and cedar shavings to exist.
Your thoughts claw and scrabble like the rats behind the wood pile I can see the scars and punctures from the fights.
We surviving scoundrels like the rats behind the wood pile who find love in shit and cedar to exist...
Now confront the carnage like what's left behind the wood pile of the poison meant to kill the other rats.

The rats become a metaphor for your thoughts and relationship. The poisonous arguments come through.
